Benefits and Importance of Protein

There are 3 types of macronutrients that are important for bodily function and health optimization. There are fats, carbohydrates and protein that we need often to maintain our body's function and activities. We will talk about the benefits of protein today. Protein has a huge role when it comes to muscle development, muscle recovery among lots of other things. Protein can be found in many aspects of our diet and supplementation.

  • 2.Some dairy sources such as cheese and chocolate milk
  • 3.Beans and Plants
  • 4.Protein Supplements such as Whey or Casein

Protein pays an important role when it comes to our muscles. It is involved in muscle growth during the repair process of exercise. Which is where many gym goers take the infamous protein shake after work outs to repair broken down muscle tissue. Protein is also found in our hair, skin and nails.

Since protein is considered a macronutrient, people need to consume relatively large amounts of it in order to maintain body function. Without proper protein intake, our bodies will not be able to develop muscles, chemical reactions such as enzyme/hormone production, skin, blood, and cartilage. There are multiple forms of protein whether you eat vegan, carnivore, or keto. So in essence you can find it anywhere whether its at the local cafe, nutrition store, or at the grocery store.

When it comes to serving size and how much protein a person needs throughout the day, people need .5 grams to 1.0 grams per pound of body weight to maintain our body's need for protein. For example, someone who weighs 150 pounds need roughly 75g to 150g of protein each day. If that sounds lofty to consume that much protein in a day, a great method can be spacing out servings throughout the day. An example can be 25-gram increments to make it easier. 


All in all, protein is a macronutrient that the human body needs to function properly. Without proper intake of protein, certain aspects that are important such as muscle development/skin development will not be as optimal.
