​Plantar Fasciitis-Best tips and tricks to find relief!

Summer is in full swing, and we are seeing many people become more active. Although we want people as active as possible, its very common that with that activity comes injury. We see a lot of patients in our office that complain of foot/heel pain. This pain is usually due to plantar fasciitis- which is inflammation of the plantar fascia. This tough, fibrous band of tissue attaches to the heel bone and base of the toes.

Plantar fasciitis results from tension on the fascia that can occur from daily activities such as walking, running, and standing for longer periods of time. Other factors resulting in this pain can be the structure/ shape of the foot, the weight you carry, or the types of shoes you're wearing. With overuse, the tissue loses some of its elasticity and resilience which causes irritation.

Some symptoms of plantar fasciitis can be pain that occurs near the heel, sudden pain after either prolonged vigorous activity or a long period of inactivity. Symptoms tend to increase in patients when they are either barefoot or using minimally supportive shoes.
